This festival is one of the premier events that occurs in Columbia Md. Music lovers travel from near and far to be a part of the weekend event each year. With over 30 years of delighting fans, the festival doesn’t disappoint. There is something for everyone. From food vendors to local wholesalers displaying art, clothing and jewelry, you are sure to have a great time. Remember, the festival is an all-day event on Saturday and Sunday. The gates open at 10 am for early birds who plan to set up tents. The last shows typically start around 8pm. Friday evening shows last for several hours beginning around 7pm.

Buying Tickets: The Capital Jazz Festival is a popular event and typically sells out fast. Hence, make sure to buy your tickets early. You can buy tickets from the official website or through Ticketmaster. It's also better to purchase the tickets in advance to avoid long lines. Tickets typically go on sale late March. Check the website often for details. Our purchase preference is Ticketmaster .Refrain from Unauthorized Reselling:Finally, remember that reselling tickets or wristbands for a profit, or any other unauthorized distribution, is strictly prohibited. So, do not buy tickets from unauthorized sources or online and always buy from authorized sellers only.
Arrive early: If you want to get a prime spot on the lawn seating, it's essential to arrive early. Gates typically open a few hours before the show, so plan to arrive at least an hour before the opening. This will also give you time to explore the festival area and find food and drinks. Parking:Parking at Merriweather Pavilion can be limited and pricey, so it's recommended to arrive early or plan to carpool with friends. There are plenty of surrounding parking garages and lots within a few blocks of the pavilion. You can find some of them on the Merriweather Pavilion website.

Seating: Seating at the pavilion is pretty comfortable, easy to access, and offers an excellent view of the stage. However, seats are assigned, so if you want to get a better general lawn seat, plan to arrive early and line up at the gate. The earlier you arrive, the more chance you have to get your favorite seat.

Lawn Seating: The lawn seating area is a more budget-friendly option and usually has enough space for everyone. You can bring a blanket or a lawn chair to enjoy the concert comfortably. Since you won't have an assigned seat, it's best to arrive early to get a good spot.

Tents: The Capital Jazz Festival also offers tent rentals for groups of up to 10 people. They include tables, chairs, and other amenities such as priority parking, restroom access, and exclusive food and beverage options. Tents tend to sell out quickly, so make sure to book in advance. The tent experience is great way to enjoy a lazy day with family and friends. Also, it’s protection for sun on hot days and rain when weather is inclement. The show goes on rain or shine. We are going try this tent. Product review coming soon! Crown Shades Pop-Up.

Symphony Woods: Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods is a 51-acre arts and culture park located in the heart of Downtown Columbia. This venue offers an additional stage during the Capital Jazz Festival. Lawn chairs can be utilized at this venue but no tents are allowed to ensure all patrons have great visibility.

Food and Drinks:
The pavilion has an extensive selection of food and drink options for purchase, including beer, wine, and cocktails. However, drinks and food items sell out fast, so it's best to plan ahead and pack your own snacks and water.
Find out what you can bring:
Check the festival's website to see what is allowed and not allowed on the lawn seating area. Typically, you can bring a blanket, low-backed chairs, and soft-sided coolers with food and beverages. Be sure to avoid bringing any items that may obstruct other guests' views or create a safety hazard.Bring a blanket or chairs to sit on and make yourself comfortable. A lightweight and waterproof blanket is a great option that you can easily roll up and carry with you.
Dress comfortably:
The festival is usually held in the summer, so expect it to be hot, humid, and sunny. To stay cool and comfortable, wear light and breathable clothes, hats, and comfortable shoes to walk around on the grass. Don't forget to apply sunscreen and bring sunglasses to protect your eyes.
Respecting Other Guests:
Since lawn seating is general admission, be courteous and don't take up more space than necessary. Avoid blocking anyone's view, and be mindful of your neighbors. Also, refrain from smoking or using e-cigarettes in areas where it is prohibited.
Preparing for lawn seating at the jazz festival can make the difference between a comfortable and enjoyable experience or a miserable one. Be sure to check the festival's rules, dress comfortably, arrive early, bring your own food and water, and respect other guests. With the right preparation, you'll be able to sit back, relax, and enjoy the great music at the festival.
Check the Festival's Website: The festival's official website typically provides information about what items are allowed and prohibited at the event, including food and drink policies. Look for a section on the website that discusses festival rules and regulations, or contact the festival organizers via social media, email or phone
It's a good idea to bring extra cash if you plan to purchase food and drink sold by the festival as well as other vendors.
The Merriweather Pavilion Capital Jazz Festival is an exciting and fun event, but the experience can be made better by planning ahead and following the tips above. Arrive early, plan your parking in advance, and come prepared with snacks, sunscreen, and comfortable clothing to enjoy the festival comfortably.
